David Suratgar is an international lawyer and banker with more than 30 years of infrastructure investment and finance experience. Mr. Suratgar is Chairman of MediCapital Bank plc and of Fortune Funds Ltd. and is a member of the Board of Directors of Banque Marocaine du Commerce Exterieur, Global Alumina Inc., DiscoveryTel Inc. and of Taylor-DeJongh Inc. He also serves as an advisor to the leading water consulting engineering firm CH2M Hill.
Mr. Suratgar was formerly a senior lawyer at the World Bank and served as special legal advisor to the European Investment Bank, to the Bank of England and to the European Commission. He served as Director and Deputy Chairman of Morgan Grenfell and Deutsche Morgan Grenfell International and as a member of the Advisory Board of Pictet et Cie’s Water and Environmental Fund. He currently serves on advisory boards or as a trustee of the School of Oriental and African Studies of London University and of George Washington University. He served on the Council of Chatham House (the Royal Institute of International Affairs) from 1996 to 2006. He is a member of the board of the Major Projects Association in London and is a senior research fellow and member of the Advisory Council of International Law Institute of Washington, DC. He is also Vice Chairman and Treasurer of Leadership for Environment and Development (LEAD) and previously was a board member of the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED).
Mr. Suratgar holds an MA (Law) from Oxford University, a Master of International Affairs in International and Comparative Law from Columbia University, and has completed the AMP – Corporate Finance at Harvard Business School and has also obtained a certificate from the Hague Academy of International Law.
