Sunnybrook first to plug into energy plan

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is taking part in an innovative plan that will help balance the electrical supply on Ontario’s power grid, the first initiative of its kind in the province.

In return, the hospital will receive a modest payment that can be used for patient services.

Officials from Sunnybrook, the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), which is the agency “at the heart of Ontario’s power system” responsible for balancing supply and demand through the electricity market and managing the reliability of the power grid, and Smart Grid technology company ENBALA Power Networks announced the project at a press conference at the hospital on Thursday, Oct. 31.
