Wastewater treatment plant opens with no smell

HAINES CITY – The city Wednesday officially opened a wastewater treatment plant that has no smell.

The $4 million state-of-the-art plant uses a patented neutralizer process with an end product of commercial-grade organic fertilizer, which can be sold, a company fact sheet said.

Jacksonville-based BCR Environmental built the plant, its eighth operating in Florida and housed in a building the size of a warehouse about 100 by 50 feet.

The company has designed the system to be used by small- to medium-sized municipalities, said Aaron Zahn, president and chief executive officer.
